At present, there are mainly two kinds of zircon ramming material used in the bottom of the glass furnace, one is the fused cast AZS ramming mass, the other is zirconium ramming mass .

Zirconium ramming mass is made from a certain proportion of sintered zirconium brick fragments as aggregate, zirconium powder, and other accessories in a scientific proportioning, it has high refractoriness and good erosion resistance of glass liquid. But when contacting with the liquid alkali glass, the zircon is easy to be decomposed because zirconium ramming material is free of aluminum. And the SiO₂ will reduce viscosity after decomposition of zircon, thus which will accelerate the erosion of zirconium ramming layer, and lead to the ramming layer is damaged. Therefore, zirconium ramming mass is more suitable for the ramming layer of weakly alkali glass kiln, such as boronsilicate glass furnace bottom. The fused cast AZS ramming mass is more suitable for the ramming layer of sodium-lime-silica glass furnace , electricvacuum glass and other alkali glass kilns.
